oor Buddy. He has a glandular disorder - at least that's what he's been told. Why else would he be over six feet tall when all the other elves at the North Pole are almost half his size? |
It all makes sense when Buddy (Old
School's Will
Ferrell) discovers he's not an elf at all - he's a human being raised as
one of Santa's helpers after crawling into Santa's bag one Christmas Eve. Too big and clumsy for Old St. Nick's workshop, Santa (Ed Asner) encourages Buddy to find his real family in New York City. When he arrives he finds that the human world is far from sugarplums and candy canes but manages to meet a girl just his size (Zooey Deschanel) when he is recruited to become a department store elf. He also reacquaints himself with the family he left behind so long ago including a younger brother and his father (James Caan) who just happens to be on Santa's naughty list. The film is directed and co-written by Jon Favreau (Swingers, Made), who is known for his comic touch. This family holiday film should be no exception. - Robin Stevenson |
