Dear Tribute,
I just saw Finding Forrester, and I love it! My brother and
I always watch Sean Connery's films because we think he's the best actor
for any genre of film!
Can you tell us how old Mr. Connery is? Also, is there an address
we can write to? Thanks!
D. Wang
Toronto,Ont.
Sean Connery was born on August 25,
1930, which makes him 70 years old. You can write to him care of his
agent: CAA, 9830 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90212.
Dear Tribute,
I have a movie question that I hope you will find interesting
enough to help track down the answer.
In the movie Miss Congeniality there is a scene where in the
background, attached to a piece of equipment, there is a piece of paper
with a red maple leaf on it. This maple leaf is displayed in a
red circle with a slash through it. This piece of paper clearly gave me
the impression of "NO CANADIANS."
It appears on screen during the scene when the Miss United States
Pageant is being televised. The shot moves into the producers control
room. Over his shoulder is the piece of electrical equipment that the
paper is attached to.
I am sure there must be some humorous story behind it. I hope you
are as curious as I as to what that story is.
James Malloy
Halifax, NS
It's believed that the symbol was
placed in the shot by crewmembers to protest the number of movies being
filmed in Canada lately. However, the producers deny any knowledge of the
maple leaf with the slash through it and claim no anti-Canadian sentiment
existed on the set.
Dear Tribute,
I have enjoyed your magazine since I was a teenager. In recent
years I have noticed that the movies you advertise don't always come to my
city. Most recently Malèna, which was released Christmas day, has
yet to come to my city. Is there anything that I can do to bring these
movies to my hometown?
Richard
Winnipeg, Man.
Malèna has not yet been scheduled to
air in Winnipeg, but remember, if you're looking for a specific movie
title, you can go to www.tribute.ca to see if the movie is playing in your
area.
Dear Tribute,
How can the people who produce all those previews at the
extraordinary noise levels that deter from enjoyment of cinema visits,
hope to attract audiences?
And, just as bad, why do they give away so much of the movie plots
in their dumb, loud previews? The only purpose of previews is to entice
audiences, not to drive them away!
Movie marketers, smarten-up.
